Der Untergang

I thought this movie was an outstanding portrayal of the last few moments of the Nazi regime. It gives light to a viewpoint often never noticed by most of society. The acting was superb, and seeing it in German (I know this movie was made in Germany, but still) really gave it that realistic quality many movies aspire for.
The actor playing Hitler did an excellent job conveying the urgency and frustration one would assume that Hitler actually went through in that situation. And the props and scenes seemed so realistic you could actually almost forget you weren't really in that bunker in Berlin. It was an interesting portrayal of the Nazi officers as men dealing with immense problems, rather than monsters who are inhuman. Granted the actions of these men led to some of the worst atrocities the world has ever seen, but it also helps show that Hitler and his men were indeed of the same material as the rest of us.
Having been to Berlin and seeing much of this historical city in person, it is hard to imagine my view of this city being the same exact one that was decimated by bombs, artillery, and a crazed leader. It is one of the wonders of film to be able to show what was yesterday as if it were today, helping connect the past with the present.
